Active women who, despite any opposition, do not shy away from expressing their opinions and tirelessly strive to establish a place in male-dominated fields have long been fighting various forms of gender misinformation. All of this did not begin in the 21st century, however, with the development of technology, it has become even easier to target women, especially political leaders, and spread false information, lies, and conspiracy theories about them.
Gender disinformation typically belittles women’s intellectual abilities and aims to exclude women from public life and decision-making positions in politics. It attempts to portray publicly active women as stupid, immoral, deceitful, and weak. This strategy significantly harms women and prevents them from holding positions of power.
In our quiz, you will test how well you know and remember the cases when female politicians became targets of gender misinformation with the aim of discrediting, delegitimizing, or simply insulting them.
Georgia is no exception when it comes to the spread of gender disinformation. In 2023 alone, Myth Detector, a fact-checking platform, identified 62 cases of gender disinformation. In 2024, the organization Safar investigated gender disinformation against female politicians. Respondents unanimously agree that disinformation always has a purpose, and they list discrediting, silencing, psychologically influencing, and expelling female politicians from politics as among them.
