Women around the world are victims of many forms of violence, be it physical, sexual, economic or emotional. Studies confirm that every second woman living in Georgia has experienced at least one form of violence.
Over the years, several changes have been made to the legislation, and representatives of state agencies have said that eliminating violence against women is their priority. Nevertheless, a number of problems still remain, including women’s rights activists talking about flawed legislation, as well as the lack of sensitivity of law enforcement officers, the problem of enforcing laws in practice, etc. Instead of correcting all this, the Georgian Dream party began to fight the word “gender” and removed it from the legislation for propaganda purposes. Despite the legislative changes made, due to the unequal and discriminatory environment, the issues of preventing violence and protecting victims still remain a challenge.
