President Decided to Pardon Lazare Grigoriadis

Salome Zurabishvili decided to pardon Lazare Grigoriadis. The President stated this during an interview with Inga Grigolia and emphasized that the government’s threats on the issue of pardon are unacceptable.

“I made this decision today, this morning, at 10 o’clock. I didn’t wait for anyone’s call, so no one will count the points, or the threats, because I considered in front of my conscience that this young man cannot be punished for 9 years. I haven’t signed it yet because of the procedures, but the decision was made without any expressed opinion,” Zurabishvili said.

The president also said that there will be an attempt to confront her as the commander-in-chief with the police.

“I want to tell the police that this is not an incitement, there is no evidence here, it is my opinion that this happened. I want to appeal to everyone, the police in this country is not only respectable and very important, but in the process we are entering now, the role of the police will be very important. They will be on guard for the stability of our country. There is an attempt to divide the society, to crash, to repeat some very bad pages from the past, and in all this our defender is and will be the police, and in advance I want to express my respect, hope and belief that they will be where the state and the country need them”.

Today, the court sentenced Lazare Grigoriadis, who was arrested duringthe protests in March, to 9 years in prison.
