Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group (WISG) is the first organization in Georgia that focuses on the empowerment of lesbian, bisexual women and transgender people. Today, the organization is a leading expert in LGBT issues and has gained the trust of both local and international governmental and non-governmental actors. The organization’s mission is to popularize feminist ideas, promote the development of women’s activism and the formation of a safe environment where sexism and homo/bi/transphobia are recognized as social problems at the cultural, social, legal and political levels.

Here is the review of Women’s Initiatives Support Group for February, 2024.

  • In February, the organization published a publication, “Standards of Care for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse Persons”. The publication is a Georgian translation of the “Standards of Care for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse Persons” (version 8) developed by the organization “World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH)”. The purpose of this translation is to implement trans-specific healthcare standards in Georgia, which will be similar for all providers of medical services and will be recognized by the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia.
  • The organization has two current job openings: head of advocacy and lobbying department and legal expert. The application deadline is March 11, 2024.

Besides this, WISG will host its annual Feminist Film Festival, From Rosa to Simone at Mutant Radio’s indoor space, on March 8, 9 and 10. The film festival combines about 13 film screenings (including animations), 2 multimedia exhibitions and various musical performances. The 2024 festival will be dedicated to the sadness, anger, questions, discoveries and joys of being somebody else. Attendance is free.
